This chery-picks a few patches from Martin Fuzzey that landed in master to help fix up builds under AOSP.

Unfortunately there are further changes needed for AOSP to get it all building properly (AOSP/master now requires blueprint files for some parts of the build), but these changes are are also needed, so I wanted to backport them.
