VLC Crash / System Hang
VLC plays *.mp4 files fine, but it crashes and causes a system hang when fed a video stream from a HDHomerun ATSC tuner.
After initiating the video stream, VLC will launch and display the stream source in the title bar udp://127.0.0.1:5000
, but I have no video displayed and the sound is garbled, with lots of audio drop outs. VLC will "play" the stream for anywhere from 5-30 seconds and then VLC will hang. After 1-2 minutes VLC will close by itself.
But, if I attempt to interact with VLC while it is hung, my entire system will hang. Sometimes I will retain mouse control and sometimes not. Usually the only way to recover the system is to power cycle the machine. Even if I retain mouse control, nothing else is responsive. I can't <alt><tab>
to another program, or otherwise interact with a different program, for instance.
I have no problem using VLC to display HDHomerun video streams on other systems, which are not using the nouveau driver.
