Factorio flickers heavily

Describe the issue
Factorio (both the full game in Steam as well as the demo (non Steam)) has started to flicker heavily, at least for a few days. Gray artifacts start to appear as soon as the game is loading, a gray flickering is noticable left below the loading bar. But as soon as the main menu loads, the flickering becomes unbearable.
Other games like Portal (Steam) work without issue, as do Fallout 4 and Skyrim though wine.
Yes, I've clocked > 1000 hrs on this game without any hitch. So I guess it's going on for a week and some days, no longer than 2 weeks is my guess.
