[NV30] X11 crash when starting goldendict, radiotray, yelp...
A recent change to my system introduced a bug that crashes the X server whenever I start one of the aforementioned programs (and possibly others). At least Goldendict has still worked by February the 3rd.
The journal reveals an incomplete stacktrace (thread 989) and a line that says "nv30_screen_create:607 - nv30_screen_init failed: -19".
This is for reference. I did apt-get source mesa
, which is v19.2.8. The
source files of my distribution (Linux Mint 19.3 „Tricia“) do not differ much
from the latest upstream release.
My GPU is old and I had added nouveau.noaccel=1 to the kernel commandline
before, because the screen was flickering constantly. This is from the output of inxi -G
:
- Device-1: NVIDIA C61 [GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a]
- driver: nouveau
- v: kernel
- Display: x11
- server: X.Org 1.20.5
- driver: nouveau
- unloaded: fbdev,modesetting,vesa
- resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz
- OpenGL
- renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 9.0 128 bits)
- v: 3.3 Mesa 19.2.8
How may do I gather more info on this? This is a production system, I am debugging on the side. Thus I did not look yet to rebuild mesa in debug mode. Apitrace is appended. Though I think the problem is a layer below.
Further, I would try to find the correct debug symbols in
the hope to find #11
of the stacktrace. Can I somehow find out the meaning of
the return code from nouveau_screen_init = -19?
