error
I have been bearing this issue for a few months already. My two monitors system would randomly freeze up, mainly forcing a hard reset to resolve, though there are a few times it would recover by itself after freezing for 20 seconds. During a freeze, the display would turn black for most of the time. Sometimes, it would just log me out. It can take place as soon as 30 seconds from logging in.
I tried out LiveCD of (dev) Tails 2.11, Ubuntu 17.04 and I am able to use the system for the whole day without freezing up.
My "uname -a" is below:
Linux home 4.10.0-9-generic #11-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 20 13:47:35 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
and my "xserver-xorg-video-intel" is 2:2.99.917+git20160706-1ubuntu1
Below is found in syslog.

dmesg output
After a short period of time, Minecraft causes the GPU to hang.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Install the latest version of the FTB Infinity Evolved modpack (note this bug seems to happen with all minecraft versions but happens fastest with this modpack).
2. Load into either a singleplayer or multiplayer world.
3. Play for some time (up to 10 minutes approx.)
Expected results:
The game continues normally and without issue.
Actual results:
The GPU hangs, freezing the entire desktop, and is automatically reset after some time.
Output of "uname -rm": 4.9.11-1-ARCH x86_64
Attached is the full output of dmesg and the contents of /sys/class/drm/card0/error, in gzip format.

DMESG out regarding GPU Hang
For the last couple of months I've been experiencing issues when using LibreOffice Writer on my Dell Precision 7510 running Ubuntu 16.10, while using the Intel HD Graphics 530 IGP for the graphics.
When using LibreOffice Writer, e.g. while typing text the whole desktop-interface (including LibreOffice) will hang / freeze for about 5 seconds, after that everything will return to normal, those hangs will occur about every 5 minutes or so and only occur when using LibreOffice Writer.
The DMESG output indicates a GPU hang:
[drm] GPU HANG: ecode 9:0:0x86dffffd, in Xorg [1472], reason: Hang on render ring, action: reset
Now I've already submitted a bug to bugs.launchpad.org:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1635996
but was referred to here since this apparently is an upstream issue.
I'm attaching the DMESG-ouput regarding the GPU-hang and the GPU crash dump
This is my first time reporting an issue here @ bugs.freedesktop.org, so if there's info missing or if I'm doing stuff wrong, please do let me know.
P.S.:
I've read about [Bug 99325](https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99325) but I am unsure if this is the exact same issue, so I've decided to open a separate Bug.

error state batch buffer
For half a year I have been experiencing regular GPU hangs in my arch linux KDE4/Plasma installation on a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 4th generation (2016).
It *only* happens when I am using libreoffice word processing software: While typing text, the computer would spontaneously freeze for 10-20 secs, input is interrupted but I can move the mouse, then a notification appears in the system tray reading
"KWin Window Manager
Desktop effects were restarted due to graphics reset.",
and then I can continue working.
(The notification is similar to this message: https://i.imgur.com/DSgAQBZ.png )
The hang occurs regularly every 2-5 minutes but only while using libreoffice.
Sometimes, about 1 in 10 cases, the mouse pointer freezes as well and the X-Server would crash after 10-20 seconds instead of recovering.
The bug has been persistent through diverse system updates I did during the last half year.
File with GPU error state attached.
Do you need additional information?
Thanks a lot.

/sys/class/drm/card0/error
Upon opening any program which uses OpenGL, the GPU hangs.
System environment:
-- chipset: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU
-- system architecture: x86_64
-- xf86-video-intel: 2.99.917.740.g9ac7a33-1
-- xserver: 1.18.4-1
-- mesa: 13.0.2-2
-- libdrm: 2.4.74.r14.g0825792-1
-- kernel: 4.9.0-rc8inteldri+ commit 721d484 of intel-drm branch
-- Linux distribution: Archlinux
-- Machine: MSI GE60 2OE
Reproducing steps:
Run glxspheres64, and the GPU will hang.
Additional info:
I haven't been able to bisect the issue, v3.8 to HEAD exhibit the hang. From v3.8 to v3.12 the GPU doesn't consistently hang, and from v3.13 onward the GPU hangs consistently.
The offending line in glxspheres.c which causes the GPU to hang appears to be:
GLXFBConfig *c=glXChooseFBConfig(dpy, screen, rgbAttribs, &n);

## Description
At apparently random times, I have experienced my Fedora 25 system crashing back to the login screen (i.e., desktop session is fully loaded and apparently behaving normally - then everything pauses for about a second and I'm then looking at a new login prompt, which doesn't have the same background image I normally see). Trying to log in at this new prompt does not result in a desktop session loading, it just pauses for a moment and takes you back to the login prompt.
Switching VT's allows you to log in on the command line, and htop shows none of the processes which were running in my desktop session are now running (i.e. Chrome, bijiben, Terminator).
Crash dump as described in log below is not attached because it is zero bytes, nor can an "error" file of nonzero size be found elsewhere in /sys/class/drm/card*.
The hardware is a 2013 i5-4258U Macbook Pro currently running kernel 4.8.5-300.fc25.x86_64 - but the problem has existed on every version of Fedora 25 thus far, and seems to affect both Weyland and X-based sessions.
I'll keep checking to see if anything useful ever appears within the crash dump and update this ticket if so.

## Description
When using glamor on top of the i965 driver (haswell GPU), the x11perf -putimage10 score is extremly low, while shmput10 is quite fast:
20000 trep @ 1.2639 msec ( 791.0/sec): PutImage 10x10 square
14000000 trep @ 0.0019 msec (537000.0/sec): ShmPutImage 10x10 square
a netbook based on AMD's mullins chip (low-power jaguar cores) is fast for both operations:
800000 trep @ 0.0344 msec ( 29000.0/sec): PutImage 10x10 square
800000 trep @ 0.0356 msec ( 28100.0/sec): ShmPutImage 10x10 square
This issue slows down Java's antialiased rendering a lot (it doesn't use trapezoids for AA geometry, instead it uploads 32x32 coverage masks using XPutImage and later uses this data as mask for XRenderComposite).
As more and more distributions switch to glamor directly or indirectly (XWayland or X+modesetting) it would be great to see this fixed.

Crash dump as requested
When attempting to use the Vulkan backend of the Dolphin emulator, a GPU hang occurs and i915 resets the chip.
I am using a Core i5 4200U with HD Graphics 4400 in an Acer Aspire V7-582PG laptop.
My OS is Arch Linux, with Mesa 13 rc2 and LLVM 3.9 (vulkan-intel 13.0.0rc2-2 is installed), although the same error occurs on Mesa 12 and LLVM 3.8. I am running on kernel 4.8.4.
I am using Dolphin 5.0, revision 1148 (https://dolphin-emu.org/download/dev/838b23431761467c6f3dca8a1924950cf4dc2260/).
After the hang occurred, I can see these messages in my dmesg log:
[ 172.787461] [drm] GPU HANG: ecode 7:0:0x85dffffc, in Emuthread - Sta [11038], reason: Hang on render ring, action: reset
[ 172.787462] [drm] GPU hangs can indicate a bug anywhere in the entire gfx stack, including userspace.
[ 172.787463] [drm] Please file a _new_ bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org against DRI -> DRM/Intel
[ 172.787463] [drm] drm/i915 developers can then reassign to the right component if it's not a kernel issue.
[ 172.787464] [drm] The gpu crash dump is required to analyze gpu hangs, so please always attach it.
[ 172.787464] [drm] GPU crash dump saved to /sys/class/drm/card0/error
[ 172.787536] drm/i915: Resetting chip after gpu hang
Any subsequent run also hangs the GPU but just returns the last line of that error message.
Attached is the crash dump as described.
Please do ask for further details if needed, I will try my best to provide any additional information.

## Description
Hello,
recently, something on my Debian Stretch system related to drm/i915 broke. The X server on my Lenovo Thinkpad T460 sometimes freezes, apparently when gnome locks and turns of the screen after some time of inactivity. This renders the system completely unusable, it seems to not react at all anymore. Also changing to a text consoly (tty) doesn't work.
Below you find a copy of the relevant syslog entries and some details about my system. Unfortunately, since the system is rendered unusable, I'm not able to save the crash details from /sys/class/drm/card0/error. After reboot, it obviously is empty again.
Please tell me if I can do anything more to debug this bug. It's very
annoying as it sometimes implies loosing things that you just worked on.
Unfortunately, I don't know another way to reproduce the bug apart from
waiting for the automatic screen lock. Then you have to be (un)lucky
because it doesn't freeze every time.

## Description
Hi,
on Intel HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell GT2) with with git version of mesa (installed from https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/griever/mesa-git/) I found problem with BioShock 1. Game starts, I can navigate menus, however game crashes on loading screen. In console I see many:
CPU mapping a busy MapBufferRange BO stalled and took 1.792 ms.
Stalling on the GPU for mapping a busy buffer object
and
SIMD16 shader failed to compile: FS compile failed: Failure to register allocate. Reduce number of live scalar values to avoid this.
There are no errors in dmesg.
I did not play this game for some time, but I know for sure it was working on my machine before with same graphics setting. I found I can start new game (intro level with plane crash is working) but It crashes whenever some level inside Rapture is loaded. So it might be triggerred by some effect/shader/whatever which is used only further in game.
Version: git
