this can be closed as this was a vtk bug, and is fixed now (https://gitlab.kitware.com/vtk/vtk/-/merge_requests/7978)
it works on archlinux to set glsl_zero_init=true
, but not on ubuntu
with paraview:
$ glsl_zero_init=true ./install/bin/paraview
ATTENTION: default value of option glsl_zero_init overridden by environment.
Curiously it does not help to set glsl_zero_init=true environment variable
I can totally reproduce, so it looks like they closed it too quickly because there's another similar issue with that color map turning to pink

got this one too in ubuntu 20.04 since mesa was upgraded to 20.2
