PPD on Thinkpad P1 gen3 doesn't seem to do anything
Hello, on my Thinkpad P1 gen3 laptop, I see no change when I switch between the Power Modes in GNOME. powerprofilesctl
provides this output:
$ powerprofilesctl
* performance:
Driver: platform_profile
Degraded: no
balanced:
Driver: platform_profile
power-saver:
Driver: platform_profile
Whatever I choose, I see the same minimum a maximum CPU clocks during workload. The energy_performance_preference
always says balance_performance
, in all profiles, including power-saver.
$ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/energy_performance_preference
balance_performance
I can compare this with my previous laptop Thinkpad T480s, where the power profiles had a big impact on the system. In the performance mode, the CPU clocks were always at maximum (never clocked down), and the energy_performance_preference
changed between power
, balance_performance
and performance
. The powerprofilesctl
output said Driver: intel_pstate
.
I'd like PPD to work on my P1 gen3 similar to how it worked on T480s. Perhaps it is using a wrong driver and should be using intel_pstate
even on P1? Thanks for your help.
