This module contains a GStreamer plugin for FFmpeg, as well as an internal
copy of the FFmpeg source code.
It is separated from the GStreamer Plugins module because it is too
hard to maintain inside the Plugins module.
This module requires GStreamer to be built.
GStreamer: Release notes for GStreamer FFmpeg 0.8.6 "Vamoz a la Playa"
GStreamer: Release notes for GStreamer FFmpeg Plug-ins 0.9.3 "D'Artagnan"
The GStreamer team is happy to announce a new stable release of the
FFmpeg-based GStreamer plugin.
The GStreamer team is petrified to announce a new release
in the 0.9.x development series of the
GStreamer FFmpeg Plug-ins.
The 0.9.x series is a development series and not recommended for end users.
It is not API or ABI compatible with the stable 0.8.x series.
It is, however, parallel installable with the 0.8.x series.
This module contains plug-ins using libraries from the FFmpeg project.
Other modules containing plug-ins are:
gst-plugins-base
contains a basic set of well-supported plug-ins
gst-plugins-ugly
contains a set of well-supported plug-ins, but might pose problems for
distributors
gst-plugins-bad
contains a set of less supported plug-ins that haven't passed the
rigorous quality testing we expect
This module is separated from GStreamer Plugins for easier maintenance
and decoupled release cycles.
Our CVS contains both the patched source code to FFmpeg, as well as the
set of patches against upstream CVS, so we can send patches upstream
regularly from our modifications.
Features of this release
* codecs for most popular formats
* snapshot update to 20/7
* new post-processing plugin
* added flv/vob muxers
* decoder performance improvements
* Parallel installability with 0.8.x series
* Threadsafe design and API
