## Description
I have an NVidia 670 GTX with a DVI & HDMI displays connected respectively.
Using the proprietary NVidia driver, I've had no spinlocks while disconnecting or connecting (eg. powering-off, and powering-on) the HDMI display while X is running.
Switched over to xf86-video-nouveau-1.0.12 and kernel-4.8.7/4.8.9 nouveau driver (and removing NVidia and resetting OpenGL driver links), and I'm experiencing an X (xorg-server-1.18.4) 100% CPU usage/spinlock on one core whenever I power-on or power-off the HDMI device.
I've switched on all verbose logging within the nouveau kernel and DRM kernel driver. I've compiled xorg-server with debug flags, and used gdb and strace remotely on the X (xorg-server) and watched the logs when the 100% CPU usage would start. The only oddity with the logs; upon HDMI connect/disconnect and 100% CPU usage, what looks like a count down timer starts to spawn through strace. (From looks, looks like the DPMS timer for monitor time-out.) Looking at GDB backtrace doesn't show much, but I'll attach anyways because the programmer who wrote & understand the code may likely see what's occurring. From looks, looks like the DPMS timer for monitor time-out. However; I've disabled DPMS within nouveau kernel command line and xorg.conf, and the 100% CPU (spinlock) still occurs and DPMS is obviously disabled within the logs.
One thing I did not think of, I should compile the kernel (eg. nouveau kernel driver) using debugging. (Think I read an earlier post of using MMIO tracing.)https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-qxl/-/issues/3Xspice segfault2018-08-10T21:57:48ZBugzilla Migration UserXspice segfault## Submitted by Laurent Bigonville

I occasionally encounter freezing while using various applications in x11. I am able to reproduce the freeze 100 percent of the time while using Firefox and visiting https://distrowatch.com/search.php

After scrolling through the page the gpu will hang in about 1-2 seconds of scrolling. This is not the only instance of the gpu freezing, however it is the only instance I can reproduce on demand.
## Description

Desktop artifacts

Using the latest drm-intel-nightly kernel, XServer and DDX driver on Ubuntu 16.04 with DRI3 leaves artifacts on the screen on BSW.

The screen shows previous content when it's refreshed while using the desktop (see screenshot). This doesn't happen with DRI2, only with DRI3. 3D rendering works correctly.
It looks like the framebuffer-object texture is 0 and the assert(fbo->tex != 0) in glamor_pixmap_ensure_fb fails.
It could be a problem in detecting the correct driver that provides acceleration.
Similar problem seen on UDL driver with an USB2 DisplayLink device. In that case the crash backtrace seems slightly different but still related to glamor:

1. Hibernate
2. resume
3. Black screen, SysRq keys dos not work. Need to turn off the Notebook.

This happens with a tuxonice-kernel too. With proprietary nvidia-driver the resume sometimes (25-30% of all reumes) hangs up too.

With the old 2.6.*-kernel and proprietary driver there where any problems on this hardware.

With the turned off video-driver and with an active vesa-driver the resume success with a heavy distort of the screen. But it could be seen, that all other hardware functions ok. There is the possibility to input the commands, etc.
dmesg without nouveau.noaccel=1

Happened to get 2 FX4500's for my PowerMac G5 11,2, but it didn't seem willing to cooperate.

Without nouveau.noaccel=1 in the kernel parameter, the system starts fine, but X would only work with fbdev driver - as GPU locks up at early stages of startup (dmesg attached above).

With nouveau.noaccel=1 in the kernel parameter, system starts fine without the lock up message, but X will **still** only work with fbdev - using nouveau with result in a looped output of the following message:

"nouveau 0000:0a:00.0: DRM: 0x13DC: Parsing digital output script table"

And the system is inaccessible, this also appears to hang any `systemctl stop lightdm` operation and even the `reboot` command itself.
I would happily donate one of my FX4500's to one who's willing to investigate this issue.
## Description

Xorg.0.log

Dell 7510 laptop with Intel Xeon E3-1545Mv5 (Iris Pro 580), running Ubuntu 16.04 (stock except for kernel and linux-firmware package - using linux-firmware 1.161 from Ubuntu 16.10).

The stock Ubuntu 16.04 kernel (4.8.0-22-generic) works fine.

Updating to kernel 4.9-rc4 or drm-next or drm-intel-next or drm-intel-nightly from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ reliably causes Xorg to hang at start-up, with the following message being printed to Xorg.0.log:
systemd-logind: failed to take device /dev/dri/card0: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

If I boot to a console then run startx, Xorg prints a few standard messages, then the console freezes - the screen does not turn black or change video modes. CTRL-C, CTRL-ALT-DELETE, and CTRL-ALT-F2 do not respond. However, ACPI hot-keys do seem to respond - hitting the power button causes Ubuntu to attempt to shut down, and the console prints shutdown messages when this happens. However, the shutdown process hangs again before it finishes shutting down - it typically gets stuck when shutting down either the network or rng-tools.
dmesg output after the resume with some nouveau trace options

I have an iMac 9,1 where the behaviour of the backlight of the built in screen works differently between the first boot and after a suspend to ram.
It appears to be darker at lower values before a suspend than after.

kernel: 4.8.6-300.fc25.x86_64
lspci adapter: VGA adapter NVIDIA Corporation C79 [GeForce 9400] [10de:0867]
DMI: Apple Inc. iMac9,1/Mac-F2218EA9
I've been booting in EFI mode.
I do not know of a regression. I've only tried 4.4 and this 4.8 kernels.
I've observed this with X running but I've been testing this without starting a graphical environment.

I've been testing by setting setting backlight values via the /sys/backlight/nv_backlight/brightness interface.
Before a suspend I can set values such as 40, 70, 100 and the brightness seems to be reasonable on the screen.

I then suspend to ram via the /sys/power/state interface.
Upon resuming the backlight appears to be at 100 percent. If I set the brightness to values such as 30 and 60 the screen remains dark. It is barely visible as a flicker at 70. At 100 it is visible.

I've observed that the value of NV50_PDISP_SOR_PWM_DIV (0x0061c080) is 0x1 after a boot but is set to 0x84 after a resume.
It appears there's an init script in the bios dump which sets it to the value of 0x84. I have confirmed if I use the nouveau option nouveau.config=NvForcePost=1 that the behavior after booting is the same as after a resume. The value of 0x61c080 is 0x84.

If I `nvapoke 0x061c080 0x1` after a resume the backlight seems to work fairly well. I created patch to test this. I expect it isn't the proper solution.

I'm attaching the dmesg which includes a resume with the nouveau driver.
I'll also attach the vbios dump, acpidump, dmidecode, lspci,

I've gathered an mmiotrace of the binary driver as it sets a few brightness values as well.
## Description
Glamor seems to have extremly high overhead when it comes to pixel data uploads - regardless of the method used (XPutImage, ShmPutImage, ShmPixmaps).
When uploading coverage masks (8-bit grayscale pixmap), the per-primitive added by glamor overhead is so high, that it makes almost no difference whether the uploaded region is 32x32px or 256x256 - whereas SNA reaches peak-performance already with 64x64 regions.https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-nouveau/-/issues/299kernel paging request at iowrite322019-12-04T09:19:16ZBugzilla Migration Userkernel paging request at iowrite32## Submitted by Germano Massullo `@germano`

## Description
Using MPV OpenGL output for video on DRI2 with TearFree enabled, frames are sometimes displayed with desktop visible, outside of the fullscreen-scaled video image area (e.g. when for example 4:3 video is scaled to 16:9, padding left on left and right of the image).

This does not seem to occur with TearFree disabled, nor with DRI3 (TearFree enabled or not).
## Description
Here on a PowerMac G5 with a NVIDIA GeForce 6600LE graphics card, most things run pretty well except for some of the things I wanted to run on the machine resulted in nouveau GPU lock-ups, and consequently a glitched display (artifacts only).

When trying to start GDM, SDDM, or Plasma Desktop on the machine, the display locks up, and I was able to salvage an error message as follows:

[drm] nouveau 0000:0a:00.0: GPU lockup - switching to software fbcon

After a minute or two, the display responds again, but only showing a black background with several randomly colored pixels, and some white blocks.

However, this graphics card runs LightDM, XFCE, MATE... and most other applications without such error and lock-ups. I was able to workaround the issue by using the nouveau.noaccel=1 kernel parameter (except in the case of GDM, it returned with the same error), but that simply beats the purpose of owning a graphics card.

However, even with the noaccel parameter in place, I was still experiencing bad coloring issues, as reported here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98630.

----------

Some version info:

- Linux Kernel 4.8.6 (with 4K paging in case you are wondering)
- Mesa 13.0.0
- Xorg Server 1.18.4

----------

P.S.

I tried on with a Quadro FX4500, which simply shows the lock up error whenever attempting to start X. But I couldn't make sure if it's a hardware issue or not, as the card sparked on the first power up, that's why I have already returned it...
