libglvnd's license, the Khronos group advertising clause, and GPL compatibility
I have to claim that I Am Not A Lawyer.
So, I noticed this clause in libglvnd's license:
If only executable code is distributed, then the accompanying
documentation must state that "this software is based in part on the
work of the Khronos Group."
To me, this feels like the BSD-4-clauses's "advertising clause". It's been widely regarded that the advertising clause makes the original BSD license incompatible with GPL. So, I have a few questions:
- Doesn't this clause also makes this license incompatible with GPL? Won't this implicates GPL applications linking against libglvnd's (e.g.) libGL?
- Why is this clause included in the first place? Which part of libglvnd originates from Khronos group?
- Is it possible to remove this clause? It seems like, at least, both Debian and Fedora seems to forgot about this clause, so if it can be removed it would make it a bit easier.
