Incorrectly striped display on HD4000 IvyBridge
Lets begin by saying I am not going to build a debug kernel again and send logs because this is what I need to add file a bug here. So if you just ask for these things and are looking for me to try on some tip somewhere, then just forget about it. A released kernel by intel people means that it should be of reasonable quality.
I just upgraded the kernel to 5.9 on an IvyBridge machine with an internal connection. It is probably and LVDS or HDMI connection. I don't know and I don't care. I started up gnome and noticed that there were gaps in the pixels. The screen appears to have been elongated in the X direction by about a third. I could make out the characters and was able to change resolution from the native 1920x1080 to some other resolution and the display was fine. I then changed resolution (using the gnome gui again) back to 1920x1080@60Hz and this worked fine.
I suspect that something isn't calculating the striping correctly. I have filed bugs previously against this device, like with the watermark and noticed that it took 18 months for the bug to be acknowledged as existing after being shuffled back and forth between finland ireland and india. Anyhow, don't flag this for more info because I am not going to bother dealing with you boiler plate of send more logs and build with debugging info. Kindly do some sanity testing on you releases. I also noticed that this display got a windows driver update, so you (intel) are still supporting this.
