Boot hangs as of kernel 5.7 with 'fb0: switching to inteldrmfb from EFI VGA'

The kernels before I had no issue. Just before it hangs the font size is increased and the letters are huge! But then it hangs and one cannot reach the system via network and I have to press the reset button to reboot.
Have tried several things like compiling only simple_fb or no fb at all, but it always hangs. Also setting gfxmode=text in grub does not help.
Any idea what else I could try or what information is needed to be able to run the newer 5.7.x kernels?
