Boot hangs as of kernel 5.7 with 'fb0: switching to inteldrmfb from EFI VGA'

The last two lines (copied on paper) looks as follows: i915 0000:00:02.0: Found 128MB of eDRAM fb0: switching to inteldrmfb from EFI VGA

Details of the system:

System: Host: yoda.home.box Kernel: 5.6.0-pf8 x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 10.1.1 Desktop: mwm wm: FVWM dm: LightDM, LXDM Distro: Fedora release 32 (Thirty Two) CPU: Topology: Quad Core model: Intel Xeon E3-1285L v4 bits: 64 type: MT MCP arch: Broadwell rev: 1 L1 cache: 256 KiB L2 cache: 6144 KiB L3 cache: 6000 KiB flags: avx avx2 lm nx pae sse sse2 sse3 sse4_1 sse4_2 ssse3 vmx bogomips: 54400 Speed: 3693 MHz min/max: 800/3800 MHz Core speeds (MHz): 1: 3708 2: 2053 3: 3708 4: 3692 5: 2396 6: 3690 7: 3688 8: 3692 Graphics: Device-1: Intel Iris Pro Graphics P6300 vendor: ASRock driver: i915 v: kernel bus ID: 00:02.0 chip ID: 8086:162a Display: server: Fedora Project X.org 1.20.8 driver: modesetting unloaded: fbdev,vesa resolution: 3840x2160~60Hz s-dpi: 96 OpenGL: renderer: Mesa Intel Iris Pro Graphics P6300 (BDW GT3) v: 4.6 Mesa 20.0.7 direct render: Yes

The kernels before I had no issue. Just before it hangs the font size is increased and the letters are huge! But then it hangs and one cannot reach the system via network and I have to press the reset button to reboot.

Have tried several things like compiling only simple_fb or no fb at all, but it always hangs. Also setting gfxmode=text in grub does not help.

Any idea what else I could try or what information is needed to be able to run the newer 5.7.x kernels?

To upload designs, you'll need to enable LFS and have an admin enable hashed storage. More information
