Alder Lake GPU HANG,: ecode 12:1:00000000, Asynchronous wait on fence 0000:00:02.0:Xorg[2350]:e934 timed out (hint:intel_atomic_commit_ready [i915])
Summary
I got an Alder Lake 12th i5-1245U, and the driver works for normal workloads and some very minimalistic games.
But when I start something up thats more demanding, the iGPU handles it fine until some very specific events happen.
I've had it in several games, but i managed to reproduce it consistently EACH time with Amid Evil in a particular area, which i assume is some kind of transition between two zones.
If it would be of any help, i've included my save file for Amid Evil (goes into :~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/673130/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/AmidEvil
given you use Steam), as i haven't found an easier way to consistently get the error
The usual ecode error for this is 12:1:8... but sometimes 12:1:00000000 strikes or even 9:1:8... I tried to explore issues from this very repository in search of fixes but to no avail. Seems like the new AlderLake series is simply too new to work correctly with i915/mesa Tried disabling preemtion timings and heartbeats, the issue doesnt seem to be related to power draw, as the issue is extremely consistent with this particular instance, and i can play in the same area but as soon as i explore and go to the next, the crash occurs within the next few frames.
I usually use the latest Zen kernel on my Artix install (Arch + OpenRC), i have currently gotten the latest available drm-tip-git kernel compiled from AUR as i'm speaking now for debugging purposes, and the issue still occurs It complains about some Xorg process with some atomic issue, but it does not happen on the dmesg log on drm-tip, only with Zen so far.
I will attach as much debug information as I can gather.
I cannot seem to dump the VBIOS due to a Input/output error
(despite toggling the flag to initialize a dump as otherwise it Invalid Argument
's (Yes i verified, it is the correct PCI device: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Alder Lake-UP3 GT2 [UHD Graphics] (rev 0c)
))
I have yet to try switching to Wayland completely in hopes of solving the issue.
I am willing to try suggestions, anything that might fix this very annoying issue.
