We have noticed the below drm ERRORs on one of our digital signage machines.
The errors seem to put the iGPU in a state where they no longer offer hardware accelerated video decoding. This is also the way we found out: the software falls back to software decoding, video stutters occur and the machine gets warmer.
Steps to reproduce the issue The error seems to appear spontaneously without any human interaction after some uptime. Running software:
- weston (wayland compositor)
- cog (WPE WebKit based browser)
- gstreamer (used by WebKit to play videos using VA-API)
How reproducible/Frequency of occurrence The machine where we observed this recently rebooted due to a software update and we have ephemeral logs so we cannot check earlier boots. However, looking at some of the aforementioned side effects seems to indicate that this machine had this error happen on earlier boots. The time after booting when this occurred varies from several hours (~8) to a few days (~6).
Which platforms and features are affected?
- Platform: Intel N5100 (not exactly sure what is meant with platform in this context)
- Affected features: VA-API no longer functions after the crash.
