DP audio plays slower than HDMI

Description

This issue has persisted for some time I don't think it's a regression.

  • h/w: HD 7950
  • s/w
  • kernel: several versions, including mainline 4.6.13
  • xorg: several versions, including 1.19.6
  • kernel drivers: both radeon and amdgpu
  • ddx: both modesetting and amdgpu

The hdmi audio sounds perfect but the dp audio is slower which makes it sounds like 45LP on 33.

Please advise any more info/logs which I should supply
