AMDGPU Navi21 8k@60Hz not working
Brief summary of the problem:
HDMI2.1 8K@60Hz (7680x4320@60Hz) is supported by GPU and Display (works in Windows, advertised in EDID), but does not work in linux (tried CentOS, Rocky, Ubuntu - X11 and Wayland so far).
8K@30Hz as well as 4K@120Hz work correctly.
Hardware description:
- CPU: 7980xe
- GPU: 0000:67:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Navi 21 [Radeon RX 6800/6800 XT / 6900 XT] [1002:73bf] (rev c0)
- System Memory: 128G
- Display(s): Samsung Q800T - HDMI port 4 "Input Signal Plus" Enabled
- Type of Display Connection: HDMI2.1 48Gbps cable(s)
System information:
- Distro name and Version: Rocky 8.4 (also tried CentOS8.3, Ubuntu20.04)
- Kernel version: 5.14.11-1.el8.elrepo.x86_64
- Custom kernel: N/A
- AMD official driver version: N/A
How to reproduce the issue:
- Install Rocky, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc...
- Update to latest ml kernel
- Plug in 8K@60Hz capable monitor to HDMI
- Attempt to set 8K@60Hz resolution - xrandr, etc... all show only 30Hz available for 8K
