picasso - desktop hard crash since 5.9.9 and have to cold reboot
Brief summary of the problem:
Since kernel 5.9.9 when I resume my laptop, the screensaver shows one frame then it's locked and I have to cold reboot.
Looking at the changes in 5.9.9 from https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git I noticed commit 756fec062e4b823bbbe10b95cbcfa84f948131c6 removes AMD_PG_SUPPORT_VCN_DPG
So I just thought I try revert the changes from commit 756fec062e4b823bbbe10b95cbcfa84f948131c6, compiled kernel, now it resumes again. I've tried this out since kernel 5.9.12 and now using 5.9.13 ( I never used 5.9.10 or 5.9.11 )
Hardware description:
- Laptop: HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cw1507sa, firmware version F.45
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, Microcode: 0x08108109
- GPU: Radeon Vega 8
- System Memory: 32GB ( I had it upgraded from 8GB )
- Display(s): I don't know
- Type of Display Connection: eDP and HDMI as external secondary monitor ( issue occurs with or without secondary monitor )
System information:
- Distro name and Version: Arch Linux - rolling release
- Kernel version: 5.9.13
- Custom kernel: n/a
- AMD package version: I don't know what package you mean exactly other than the firmware/microcode version? 20.45
How to reproduce the issue:
- Using LXQT with xscreensaver, when suspend or hibernate ( explicitly or from idle time ) it auto locks my desktop
- When I resume, I see one frame of my screensaver then it stops.
- I try moving my mouse, pressing keys and there is no response, I've tried switching tty's and nothing
- I Cold reboot my laptop, look at my kernel/dmesg logs from previous boot... no errors or warnings, I look at my xorg logs, again no errors or warnings
