1.2.16: strings are returning as dbus.String instead of proper strings on Python 3.8

Similar to #31 (closed), I'm seeing this while working on Ipsilon on Python 3.8 on Fedora 32.

I'm pretty sure it never did this before, but now it's breaking auth flows...

To upload designs, you'll need to enable LFS and have an admin enable hashed storage. More information
